In from the side new film – Gay Rugby

Deciding to take the plunge

I’m an LGBTQ+ woman, so why would I watch the film… well, why not? It’s great to see representation which the gay community has more input over, and it will feel closer to home. The film picks up themes of succeeding and failing as a team, how that feels.

Spoiler alert***

The two men who hit it off, are both in relationships, which aren’t fulfilling them. They have great chemistry and are soon pursuing each other, to discover more, and to feel that wonderful feeling of the connection they share.

Trouble brewing

Their partners both signify stability or returning favours, like being helped out from a bad period of time. Mark and Warren find a fresh start with each other, and are really well suited, like soul mates and partners.

It’s too difficult to break off the existing relationships and it all comes out at the wrong time, during a NYE party.

The feel of the film

I really liked the music, and I found myself crying when Mark & Warren break up for the last time. A few cringe moments, as they tried to keep it secret, to avoid their relationship being outed in the group.

Yes, I really was crying in the cinema, so that says something about the performance of the actors being good.

Best supporting roles

There were some really great supporting roles including Marks best friend Henry, and the team joker/clown – Pinkie.

I hope I haven’t said too much about the film. It’s all about the sentiment you feel when you see it at the cinema.

In From The Side is described as an Independent Gay Rugby Film and it received 5 stars from The Sunday Times and queer press have hailed it as an excellent cinematic feature film!

That’s not my name!

Some names do sound quite similar. And any interim manager will get past their honeymoon phase in the new job by discovering, they have been saying everyone’s name a little bit wrong.

Lizzy isn’t Liz anyway, its Elizabeth. And who’s this name on the list, has another co-manager mistaken the names or was it another Elizabeth called Izzy?

People were being too polite to mention all the incorrect name pronouncing especially when it comes to how long the name can be shortened to or not.

A typical floor manager of a supermarket walking round trying to find Stacey. Only to discover it was Sophia. Sophia hasn’t received the email sent to Stacey and whatever was supposed to have been communicated hasn’t.

And too many people with the same name, how to distinguish them politely??? Fred from Wales and Fred from Taunton?

What about that person in the office with quite a fashionable outfit, who didn’t have much experience. One day you’ll have to remember this person’s name too! You can just say ‘hey super dry top!’

If people are willing to be honest with you about your well intentioned name learnings and failures, perhaps this is a good place to be afterall.

Nutella – best ever chocolate when feeling emotiony

I was in the break room, toasting my crumpets and I thought, if I use abit of the Nutella it will be just lovely. Another co-worker arrived and I said I would pledge to buy another pot of the Nutella. However the jar was so empty I was scraping the last few cruds of chocolate sauce anyway. So I cleaned it out and put it out with some other recycling, even though other people thought ‘we don’t recycle here’ we actually do have a huge mega dry recycling waste crate which is sometimes mistaken for an extra bin.

I don’t know about you, but I’m finding the expense of food, travel really adding to the day to day cashflow burden.

When I have a day off, one of my favourite things to go and do, is have a Premier Inn breakfast. And of course, you usually are able to sneak one or two jam or Nutella samples home after your breakie.

My precious, Nutella, muh hah ha!
Do you have a go to snack?

Employee perks, it’s difficult to get them right. My vote would be free toast and fruit for staff who work as carers. What are your experiences of employee perks?

My favourite work break room song to jam too with my imaginary break room band.
