I read today and listened on the radio about the climate conference. People were casting their opinions about whether the climate conference should be held in person as it would mean air travel would have to be used to get the delegates there. I think it should be allowed as hopefully better quality conversations and possible agreements about climate saving policies can be reached, than on zoom where it’s harder to concentrate or engage fully in the topic.
What was really making it worse was that due to some poorly organised Brexit deals we were facing a hostile French government who were annoyed, irritated even, by the worsening terms for their fishing supply chain. And the French minister reminded the residents of Guernsey that the French send power to the Island. If it wasn’t going to go their way, she implied they might switch off the supply of electricity.
Then so and so, was saying how immature the French are, using tactics like this to leverage themselves back into the fishing game. I thought it was alright, its fairly usual for someone to withhold what the other wants, if they aren’t getting what they are happy with. Even Coldplay have decided to release a song about power (Higher Power).
The worst part, is this bleeding fish row, taking away time and resources which could be re-focused on the climate debate. A few years ago a key climate meeting was taking place, when a terrorist attack occurred. It swung the attention onto terror (which was obviously awful too). It’s just with issues like climate whenever there’s a diversion or disruption, it can make it fall down the list of things to do.
I voted Brexit, years ago, when I had a postal vote. That means you vote early by ten days. The Brexit campaign was very strong. It was all about the bureaucracy in Brussels and how we’d save money for the NHS if we leave. Probably what I wanted was a stronger sense of English citizenship from people resettling in our country. Although maybe we all just want the same things, opportunity to make a living and have a reasonably contented life. Like the fish, and the fishing. There is room for all.

Give us enough fish and we won’t stop your supply of power….
